Life from the backside of 50

on Tuesday, 16 June 2015. Posted in Columns, Opinions

Like me, many of you are over the hill and on the down side of 50. We’ve discovered that health is the real wealth, not a fat bank account. Someone emailed the following list that describes our older lifestyle. The author is unknown.

  • Your kids are becoming you...but your grandchildren are perfect.
  • The things you used to care to do, you aren’t as interested in anymore, but you really do care that you aren’t as interested.
  • Going out is good, coming home is better.
  • You forget names, but it’s okay because some people forgot they even knew you.
  • You realize you’re never going to be really good at anything like golf. You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV on, than in a bed. It’s called “pre-sleep”.
  • You miss the days when everything worked with just an “on” and “off” switch.
  • You tend to use more four letter words, such as “what?” and “when?”
  • You notice everything they sell in stores is “sleeveless.”
  • What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
  • Everybody whispers.
  • You’re reached a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.
  • Taking a nap is not a treat anymore, it’s mandatory.
  • You have three sizes of clothes in your closet, two of which you will never wear.
  • You think about how great it would be to be young again and then you remember algebra.
  • We are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we’d become.
  • Think about this. If you live long enough, age goes full circle.
  • When you are 4, success is not piddling in your pants.
  • When you are 12, success is having friends.
  • When you are 17, success is having a drivers license.
  • When you are 35 success is having money.
  • When you are 50 success is having money.
  • When you are 70 success is having a drivers license.
  • When you 75 success is having friends.
  • When you are 80 success is not piddling in your pants.
  • However, old is good in some things: old songs, old movies, old memories and best of all, old friends.
