RE: ringing cell phone that interrupted concert
The ringing telephone robbed the director, the musicians, and the audience from the final resolution, that second of silence that signifies the satisfaction of months of hard work, and allows a soft landing right before the applause. It was like being pulled from the clouds and plopped into mud, and taking the whole building with you. But it did not ruin the entire experience, because there was great satisfaction in doing this work, and great satisfaction in hearing it done well, and nothing can take that away. You can rob the group of the last second, but you can’t take away the hour and a half that preceded it. It was a grand experience of epic proportions. I will always be grateful to Dr. Will Carswell for taking the piece to task and then bringing it to life.
