America is run on power, greed

on Wednesday, 09 March 2016. Posted in Letters to the Editor, Opinions

A recent opinion letter said that government is not a business and as such should not be run like one. As I see it, if a government is run by competent people that are held accountable for their actions, that may be true. However, that is most certainly not the case in America. If you agree with that, how can it be reversed so this country does not fold up under its own weight? Unfortunately we can not fire all of these nincompoops and start over.

Doing the exact same thing over and over expecting a different outcome is insane and that is what voters have done for decades. The electorate knows it, but does nothing about it. Some throw their hands and say, why vote? Therein lies another part of the problem. People in the media and those running for office use words like disingenuous, rhetoric, insincere and the likes instead of what it is, a lie.

Political correctness is also a large part of America’s problem. Tell it like it is, don’t sugar-coat it. Then maybe Americans will finally understand what’s going on. Government is us the over-taxed-payer, not some magical benefactor that creates dollars as some people must believe. Power hunger and greed is what runs America today. Stop and think about candidates before you vote for them.

What is their motive for running for a political office? Are they running or re-running because they have figured the system out so they will reap financial rewards, strut around saying look at me, I’m a big shot or both? Or are do they really want to do the right thing and make America great again? A cleaned up and enhanced version of an old saying is; opinions are like noses, most people have one, some even have two and others have noses that grow. Dave Hicklin, Florence
