LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Christ is risen; He is risen indeed
In the early days of Christianity, Christians would greet one another by saying “Christ is risen.” The others would respond with, “He is risen indeed, Hallelujah!”
Some may ask, “What does it matter that Christ is risen?” It matters because belief in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ is the power of God to save. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The following are four examples of testimonies taken from “Jesus, Messiah,” an Easter musical about what God can do by grace through faith in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.
Example No. 1 - “I always thought I was a good person. I followed the rules, obeyed the law, and hardly ever deliberately did anything to hurt anyone. But God showed me that being good wasn’t enough. Just one sin had made me guilty of all of them. Because of that, I needed a redeemer, and Jesus was that for me.”
Example No. 2 - “I was a slave to my own desires. I didn’t really care about God, much less what He wanted of me. But the more I gave in to my desire, the more trapped I felt. I was, you might say, in bondage. I needed someone to get me out of that prison I was in. Jesus did that for me. He paid my ransom and set me free.”
Example No. 3 - “I was drifting aimlessly through life. Not going anywhere. No direction. No purpose. But a friend told me about God and His Son, Jesus, and how He could rescue me from being lost. He became my Savior.”
Example No. 4 - “I was at the point of desperation. I couldn’t see anything positive about my life or any hope for the future. I didn’t see any point in living. I had decided to end it all. But I remembered hearing about Jesus in Sunday School as a kid. And I thought I’d give Him a chance to see what He could do with me. He saved this life, and He also gave me an eternal one.”
It matters for eternity for the four above, and it does for you too.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Believe in Him and see for yourself, “It matters.”
