Whatever happened to free speech?

on Wednesday, 08 July 2015. Posted in Letters to the Editor, Opinions

Much is already being made of the recent Supreme Court opinion forcing approval and implementation of gay marriage on all 50 states, regardless of the will of the citizens. The effect of this decision has already escalated in the form of an announcement by a newspaper in Pennsylvania, the Patriot-News of Harrisburg. The Patriot-News publicized that it will no longer accept, nor will it print, op-eds and letters to the editor in opposition to same-sex marriage.” Whatever happened to free speech?

The SCOTUS ruling was not particularly surprising, given the presence of the three women (Sleepy, Ideologue #1 and Ideologue #2) along with Breyer and Kennedy. Two of the females have officiated at same-sex weddings and should have recused themselves. What’s worse, the White House exposed their planned reception of the ruling with their charming “rainbow,” once again demonstrating Obama’s narcissism. I find that offensive, especially since he has publicly changed his mind on this issue twice, depending on prevailing political winds.

I fear that there are signs of worse to come. Not only are the “partners” and children subjecting themselves to the psychological warping of such an environment, but before you know it, speaking or writing critically of such “arrangements” could soon be ruled hate crimes with “fitting” punishment. Those who have been active in getting this ball rolling may rue the day their efforts came to full bloom, resulting in imprisonment or worse of many clerics and members of their flocks.

Scripture tells us that it was God who backed up his promise to Noah with the rainbow as confirmation that never again would the earth be destroyed by a flood. Of equal scriptural truth is the prediction of how the end of the world will occur. There is a Negro spiritual, a phrase from which states, “God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water, but fire next time.” Are you ready? Charles W. Howle Jr. Florence
